7 Signs Your SEO Strategy Is Outdated

SEO has a lot of tactics. However, if you stick with outdated strategies then the only thing you will get is low rankings and potential future penalties. So, I want to share with you 7 signs that the SEO strategies you are using are really outdated.

1. Keyword stuffing

This is one of those outdated SEO techniques that you must give up immediately. Simply, because today Google is increasingly focusing on the quality of content and user insights. Stuffing multiple keywords into a single post or page only reduces your website's search rankings.

Solution: Instead of stuffing keywords into the website, the best way is to focus on creating quality content that attracts and cares about user trends. Keywords should be used sparingly and using similar or related keywords is better than using the same keywords over and over.

2. Using Exact Anchor Text

These days, having an over-optimized Exact Anchor Text will get your website penalized by Google for having unnatural links. It is best to limit the implementation of this technique to keep your website rankings safe.

Solution: Instead of creating Exact Anchor Texts, it's best to think about the user and let the anchor text appear naturally.

3. Not optimizing for mobile devices

Should have a mobile optimization strategy.

Should have a strategy to optimize mobile devices

Did you know more than 40% of transactions happen on mobile devices? If you want mobile users to engage with your website and become loyal customers, you must invest in mobile search engine optimization (SEO).

Mobile SEO is the process of optimizing a website to rank better in search results and keep potential customers on mobile devices.

And here are the numbers that make you think about your Mobile optimization strategy:

  • People spend 70% of their internet time on mobile devices.

  • 74% of users are more likely to return to a mobile-friendly site.

  • Mobile-friendly websites improve the views of over 60% of users.

  • 67% of users are more likely to buy from a mobile-friendly company

  • Google prioritizes mobile devices when crawling and indexing web pages.

All of this means that when you have a website that is not mobile-friendly, it affects your position in the search results, resulting in less traffic, less customers. more potential and reduce the revenue of the business.

Solution: One of the best ways to make a website mobile-friendly is to adopt WordPress, use text with readable zoom, and use Accelerated Mobile Pages. As for AMP, one of the growing trends in SEO, as it makes websites more streamlined for mobile use.

Solution: Focus on getting quality links. Thanks to that, it will help you build a more natural Link Building strategy. To effectively implement this process, you can apply methods such as: Content Marketing, Email Marketing and establish solid relationships with other businesses.

5. No brand identity

Another change that Google is currently focusing on is branding – specifically, branded searches. This means that if someone enters a search term that includes your company name, your website will appear at the top of the search results. If not, then your website's brand SEO is lacking.

Solution: You need to build brand-optimized content and incorporate backlinks with anchor text that is simply the company name.

6. Thin content/ Missing content on Blog site

If this is what your website is up to, it's just as bad as a website with keyword-rich content, it's a website with almost no content at all. Every page on your website should serve a purpose related to the experience your visitors want.

A website with scrappy, valueless or duplicate content will be flagged as "thin" by Google. This can lead to a “thin content” penalty from Google and lead to a significant drop in your rankings.

Solution: To overcome the situation of Thin content / Lack of content on your Blog site, you need to build a content strategy, determine the right content for each page and most importantly, the content must follow user insights.

7. Ignore Social Media Strategy

Social Media has become an integral part of SEO, as it plays an important role in helping websites and keywords rank higher.

Did you know that search engines like Google now use Social Media criteria when evaluating search rankings. So, what you need is to know how to exploit the audience on Social channels to increase traffic and achieve the desired high rankings.

Solution:

For each platform such as Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, Linkedin, Google+, Pinterest... are social networking sites used to provide potential customers with news or build brand loyalty through content.

So the most important question is how does Social Media support SEO strategy?

The answer is simple – by creating backlinks and keywords. One of the most important parts of SEO is getting backlinks to your website. A Social Media site like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube... can create backlinks that both Google and users love, especially these links have a strong virality in the community.

By putting your website address in the domain of Social Media, you are essentially advertising to customers without any advertising costs. And at this point, you also say to Google: “Hey, maybe my website is interesting too”.

Another benefit of Social Media is that when you insert keywords into the title and description, your content will more easily appear on search engines. From there, your products and services reach users faster. If you want to reach the top of the search results page, then a combined SEO and Social Media strategy is the ultimate weapon for you.

7 SEO strategies to help the website always exist and develop

SEO is constantly evolving. So, instead of just giving you do's and don'ts, I will provide you with a few strategies to help optimize website rankings faster and more sustainably.

1. Focus on the long term

SEO is a long process. Take a look at how long my traffic took to grow at GTV SEO:

It takes a long time for traffic to grow

It takes a long time for traffic to grow

Yes, it takes a long time to gain rankings and traffic.

As for how long it takes to rank correctly on page 1 of Google, you can see the details at Ahrefs research. According to them, nearly 95% of newly published pages fail to make it to page 1 within a year. For ~5 percent of pages that do that, it takes 2 – 6 months.

Lesson learned:

SEO takes time. So start by addressing topics that you can easily rank for and have a separate plan for creating “Social Content” or highly shared content.

This type of content tends to get backlinks easily, and although the backlinks may not be relevant to the desired keywords, it will nevertheless help your website gain Google's credibility, as well as gain quick popularity. high ranking.

2. Always create quality content

One thing that you cannot deny is the dual power of combining quality content and promotion. I have applied and the unexpected growth results are as follows:

GTV combines quality content and promotion creating breakthrough growth

When you follow the chart above, you can see that GTV has incorporated a method of producing more quality content as well as increasing promotion on social media channels, websites, etc. And you can see, traffic of GTV grew after we adopted this approach.

3. Write for search engines and focus on users

This has a profound effect on how your website content is planned. Because with this strategy, you have to shift your focus from creating content around keywords to creating content for users.

This is an example of applying a user experience perspective to the content creation process.

You need to answer the questions:

  • What do website visitors want from this site?

  • What are they trying to accomplish?

  • What do they aspire to do?

Literally answer those questions and it becomes your content. It will also help your content align with how Google understands and ranks those pages.

However, to find the correct and appropriate answer you must check all the content that has a rating of 1 to 3 or more in the search results. Then you will understand what the user needs when querying. Finally, you can start the content writing process.

Note: Don't try to mimic articles on search results. Remember, Google only ranks the best what it feels satisfies a query.

Lesson learned: Whatever type of content you're writing, make sure you know the end goal of your content before you start writing; whether it is an article or a blog post.

In addition, for advanced optimization of the content you can learn the instructions in the video I share here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMz_R_ZYZzw

4. Do topic research, instead of just keyword research

As I mentioned before, just doing keyword research is not enough. As search engines get smarter, it's more important that your content be relevant to the topic, rather than perfectly optimized for certain keywords.

The new trend of keyword research is called topic research.

When trying to identify topics to write about, I've found the following process to be much more effective than classical keyword research, which I do as follows:

  • Download all the keywords I am ranking for from Google Search Console.

  • Sort that list of keywords by their rankings. This will shed light on the keywords that I am ranking for in the top positions with little or no backlinks.

  • Grab the keywords and switch to Ahrefs.

  • I can then determine the average Keyword Difficulty (KD).

  • Now, when planning what to write, I can find topics and keywords with similar keyword difficulty and I will be able to rank pretty high and very quickly without a lot of backlinks.

Lesson learned: When prioritizing target topics, look for topics where you ARE ranking in the top 3 without a lot of backlinks and find out the average keyword difficulty (KD) of those topics.

5. Relaunch or Edit content

Chances are you have some stale content that serves as a backbone for website traffic. If these posts are still stable, you really need to relaunch that content to boost rankings.

For example, I found that the traffic for the article How to Write an SEO Standard Post was stagnating. Instead of forgetting about it, I decided to update and re-optimize the content.

All it took were some extra Internal Links, a few fresh content updates, a bit of optimization, and the traffic boom started growing again. Check the results for yourself:

Traffic of GTV increased sharply after relaunching and editing content

Traffic of GTV increased sharply after relaunching and editing content

What to do: Log into your Google Search Console, find older content that's ranking between #7 and #20, and update it with additional sections or subtopics. These subtopics could be topics that you are actually ranking for but not directly optimizing for. Also, do a Google search of “site:yoursite.com AND [topic] ” to see if you missed any Internal Link opportunities.

6. Run a CTR improvement test

What is one of the easiest and most cost effective ways to get more clicks from organic search results?

Improve click-through rates for existing queries where your website appears in search results!

If a query brings your website 50 clicks per day with a click rate of only 1%, if you can increase your CTR to 2% you will double your traffic for that query to 100 clicks mouse every day. So do it for some of the important queries the website targets.

Experimental way: You can test and optimize the title, Meta Description. This will be a great way to improve website traffic without any other SEO methods.

7. Adjust the website interface

Did you know that poor web design can affect your SEO strategy, conversion rates, sales?

An unattractive website must be redesigned.

However, no matter the size of your company or industry, it's crucial to a successful strategy, as well as planning the right website design you need: Know what's not working, what's currently working. actions and the goals you want to achieve.

Otherwise, you won't be able to leverage or drive traffic to your website. Worse yet, what if your web design keeps people away?

So how do you know when it's time to tweak the look of your blog/redesign your website?

To get a “YES” or “NO” answer, answer these three questions:

  • Is the design outdated?

  • Will my conversions/sales decrease?

  • Do I receive complaints about user experience or design issues?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, then a blog redesign/website redesign is necessary.

Epilogue

Optimizing content for search engines has a lot of techniques you can apply. However, alongside the development of SEO will come outdated methods, as well as the formation of “modern” methods that are increasingly focused on content and users. Therefore, you should be proactive and strategically adapt to current trends to help your company or business survive and develop sustainably.

If you are still using some of these outdated strategies, now is the best time to change things up and optimize your SEO strategy.

Remember, no SEO strategy lasts forever. You must continuously monitor, evaluate and re-optimize.

And don't forget, while increasing revenue is the ultimate goal of any marketing strategy, improving user experience and website traffic will definitely be a strategy to help you reach your end goal quickly and most sustainable!
