General knowledge on how to create Anchor Text – Case Study GTV SEO

Do you really know what Anchor Text is? Or how many things you don't know yet?

Because there is a lot of information out there to share with you about Anchor Text. But depending on the amount of information you absorb will determine how you do SEO (Search Engine Optimization):

  • Build dozens of links with Anchor Text keywords to try to get to the top of Google.

  • Avoid building keyword anchor text and you will never be penalized by Google.

In fact, SEO is in the middle of those two statements. In this post I will share:

  • Exactly How to Create Anchor Text to Break Your SEO Results

  • Actual case study of how GTV SEO uses Anchor Text to top the set of keywords "seo service tphcm" with 70-80 Referring Domains.

Get started now!

What is Anchor Text?

Anchor Text is a visible piece of text that, when you click on a hyperlink, will redirect you to a new web page/URL. Normally, Anchor Text is also known as linklabel, link text, or link title.

What is anchor text?

Let's learn about what Anchor Text is

To avoid boredom, in this article we will alternately use other names for Anchor Text and you can also familiarize yourself with the names (will help later!).

Basically, you often don't know what page or URL you're being "transported" to.

Because URL is different from Anchor Text.

You can easily identify the link title thanks to the blue text or words or underscores.

Eg:

Displayed on the article: Onpage SEO standards

URL: https://gtvseo.com/seo-onpage/

Here, “Onpage SEO Standards” is Anchor Text.

Why is anchor text important?

Anchor Text will always retain its importance as long as the backlink is still effective.

Before the Google Penguin update in 2012, Anchor Text was one of the easiest ways for Google to understand the relevancy of a website. Webmasters can use link titles to improve the results displayed on search engines (Search Engine Results Pages - SERPs).

Google's Webmaster Tools (Google Search Console) will help website owners to optimize by allowing to see the most popular link title in the links to their website.

However, from 2015 onward, Anchor Text was one of the factors that caused Google to penalize spam and over- optimization. This means…. Anchor Text is becoming useless?

Completely wrong!

I can assure you, link labels are even more useful than before. Just not using the link label properly!

First, you need to go through the types of Anchor Text to better understand and know how to apply in appropriate situations.

12 Common Types of Anchor Text

Before we jump right into how to do it, you need to understand all types of anchor text in order to create a “natural” link.

I will share with you about 12 popular types of Anchor Text today so that you better understand the definition and how they work, so that you can easily apply them to your articles.

types of anchor text

12 Types of Anchor Text You Should Know

Or you can watch the video below to ask questions in the comment section, I will explain and explain more about 12 popular types of Anchor Text today.

Let's follow along

1. Brand Anchor Text (Brand Anchor Text)

Any type of link title with your brand name in it is a brand anchor text.

Pay attention to the sentence: “At GTV SEO, you can raise your own SEO skills”.

Or: "Come to GTV SEO, you get reputable and quality SEO services".

Branded Anchor Text is the safest linklabel you can use, as long as your website is not an exact domain name.

To understand its power, refer to the percentage of brand title links in the total number of ways to create quality backlinks of big brands.

Eg:

  • Vnexpress:

anchor text brand vnexpress

Percentage of link title brand VnExpress

  • Ahrefs:

ahrefs . branded anchor text

Ahrefs brand title link percentage

  • Get:

tiki brand anchor textPercentage of link title brand Tiki

As you can see, most of the big websites use Brand Anchor Text because of its ease of use and increased brand awareness.

2. Generic Text Anchors (Generic Anchors)

Most of you have come across this type of Anchor Text a lot. In this form, we will encounter genres such as:

  • Here

  • Visit Here

Generic Anchors

Anchor Text example is in an article of GTV SEO

This is the most popular and most used type of link label in the world today.

3. Anchor Text link naked (Naked Link Anchors)

Naked link anchor text ( Naked link anchor) is also known as Anchor Text URL. You just need to leave the URL name and link to the website you want.

This is a type of link label that links to your website through the URL.

For example: https://gtvseo.com/, www.gtvseo.com, gtvseo.com

And Google considers this a safe Anchor Text.

4. No Anchor Trick

This is a small strategy that I see big brands use often. Whether it's on purpose or not, it's a good idea.

Go back to the previous “Brand Anchor Text” example image. You can see that these brands all have “no text” anchors.

As the example below,

No anchor text

No Anchor Trick Strategy “a no text a“.

And what better way than to build “noText” anchors through images.

Note: Don't fill in Alt text, just insert the title link into the image. Or simply "forgot" to insert a link title inside the blog post title.

Both methods have the same effect.

5. Image Anchor Text (Image Anchors)

I always use Image Anchor in each of my SEO campaigns . Because I think it's a good way to diversify the Anchor Text.

Some SEOs claim that link labels won't count as images. But in my experience yes!

Replace the image below

image anchor text

Diversify link title with image title link

Google uses the “ ALT ” tag as the link title in an image. That's why if you leave it blank, you will get the link title " noText " as I mentioned above.

6. Anchor Text Brand + Keyword

This is a great way to stay “safe” to build a natural and diverse list of link titles.

I will use “ GTV SEO ” as my brand and my target keyword is “ Professional Website SEO Services ”. Now my brand label + keyword link will be:

Simply combine your target keyword and your brand name.

7. Related Anchor Text

LSI (short for Latent Semantic Indexing) refers to related keywords, also known as variations of the main keyword.

Therefore, if I were to target “SEO services”, some LSI keywords would be:

  • “Professional SEO Services”

  • “SEO website”

  • “Website SEO Services”

Finding LSI keywords is very easy. You can use Google's suggestion tool or Google Keyword Planner.

Let me guide a little to make it easy to understand.

LSI anchor text

Find LSI Anchor Text from Google suggestions

Or you can type directly in the search bar about your industry or service, Google will automatically suggest relevant keywords that users search for.

LSI keyword anchor text - learn anchor text

Ask Google to find LSI

If you have never heard of LSI keywords or what LSI keywords are , or do not know much about this type of keyword. Then don't worry, you can immediately refer to this article: What are LSI Keywords? How to use LSI keywords to increase SEO Traffic

8. Anchor Text Partial Match

Partial Match Anchor Text (Partial Match Anchor) is a type of anchor Text quite similar to LSI. The biggest difference lies in the fact that you are the one who made it. This link title will be different from the link labels suggested by Google or keywords with high search volume.

Here are some examples for the exact keyword “SEO services”:

  • “Quality SEO Services”

  • “Learn about SEO services”

I use link label partial matching quite a lot. Because it is a natural link to another website.

9. Long Anchor Text

The long link title (at GTV SEO, I usually call it link title bullshit) is actually an extended and longer version of a partially matched link label.

For example: “GTV SEO SEO service is the best and most handsome SEO service of 2018”

See, I see why I called it a crappy link title. In the case study below of GTV SEO, you will see how I apply it.

In addition, Google has a pretty useful section for you to know questions that customers often search for such as:

google web search query

Google's People Also Ask Section

10. Accurate Anchor Text

Oh, I know you definitely enjoyed this part. Because it has a lot of influence in boosting your keyword rankings. However, 90% of Vietnamese SEO-ers abuse it, causing Google to penalize it.

Exact Match Anchor Text is essentially your keyword.

Example: If “ SEO services ” were my target keyword phrase, then my correct link label would be “SEO services”.

11. Anchor Text keywords in the field

It is the Anchor Text that says cover or detail of your field.

Works like :

  • Increase variety for link title

  • Help Google understand more deeply about the area of the article you want to cover.

  • Easily SEO top your target keywords without fear of over-optimization.

Why does Google like this Anchor Text?

Simply put, Google is a big fan of relevancy . More related words will make Google love the website even more, especially in this age of Google Rankbrain .

Let me take an example.

At GTV SEO, when I SEO this rather competitive keyword " SEO services ", to both diversify the Anchor Text and help pull this keyword to the top, I used the link labels:

  • “Search Engine Optimization tphcm”

  • “Digital Marketing – SEO”

  • “SEO”

Here the exact keyword I need SEO is “ SEO service ”. So the keywords that cover my field are: SEO, Digital Marketing, Marekting, search engine optimization , etc.

Or the detailed keywords about the field are: Onpage SEO , backlinks , internal links , What is External Link...

12. Anchor Text is synonymous but does not contain SEO keywords

This link title is the Anchor Text like "SEO company", "SEO expert" if you are SEO the exact keyword is "SEO service".

Because at this point, these link titles are also synonymous link titles, but do not contain the exact keywords that need SEO, preventing over-optimize from happening, promoting the correct link title.

At the same time, it also helps you SEO thousands of keywords in one article. I will show you how GTV SEO has applied link title in the section below.

How to Create Anchor Text

To create a link label, you need to memorize a very simple HTML code:

<a hrefs=”https://gtvseo.com”> GTVSEO</a>

If you are using WordPress, all you need to do is highlight the text, and click the Link button on the toolbar.

How Does Anchor Text Affect SEO?

Anchor Text is a very important part of SEO, making your website structure look obvious to search engines like Google. When search engines understand internal linking through Anchor Text, it will be easier to get you to the top because it provides the whole context of your website.

When you link to other content, Google uses the link text as a report on the topic of the linked page. If the link text matches your keyword phrase, Google won't be able to tell which articles are most relevant to that topic and will rank for that keyword phrase. So yes, Anchor Text is a ranking factor for Google.

Besides, Anchor Text is also very important to your users, it makes clear the value of a certain link and tells them where it leads them.

Note: Using target keyword phrases while applying Anchor Text can keep users on your site longer and deliver valuable conversions.

How much Anchor Text density is reasonable?

How much link title density do you think is ok? My answer is OPTION!!

Yes! For each type of link title, you need to consider its density so that you can safely escape the Google Penguin penalty.

Remember that…

This is what I currently find that works and I feel safest with it myself. To get the best ratio, you should do your own research and experiment, but stick to this foundation.

Brand Anchor Text + Anchor Text link bare (70%)

70%???? Why does it take up so much? This is simply what a natural website would do.

Google always wants a reputable and quality brand that provides useful value to users/customers. Not a company that is deliberately manipulating search rankings to reach customers.

The fastest way to see if a website is spam or not is to look at the linklabel.

General Anchor Text + Image Anchor Text + No anchor (10%)

The link labels "here", no text ", "visit website", etc. will make your linklabel more diverse and increase the safety of your website like never before.

Note: Don't always "here", "here", "here", "here",… all the time! Try to diversify your words, I know you're good at Vietnamese!

LSI + Anchor Text partial match (12-14%)

This is the link title part that helps google understand your website/article better, thereby promoting the main keywords and related keywords very quickly.

Anchor Text in the field + Long Anchor Text (1-3%)

Like I said above, Google is a big fan of link titles that help it better understand your niche.

And crappy link title (long link title) is one way to help increase your link title density.

Anchor Text Accuracy (5 – 8%)

I understand that most of these link titles have a strong influence on your keyword rankings. But calmly make the right decision.

Maybe now your website can still be on the top with these exact title links over 20, 30%. However, think carefully!

“ In the same game and everyone is in violation, the one who violates the least will get higher priority .”

You said that this exact 30% link title can still get to the top.

It's correct! In short, most of the areas where you SEO are doing this, so you can be. Deeply speaking, Vietnam's Google is still far from the Google of Europe, America, ...

Among Google, Southeast Asia Google is classified as the "dumbest" in Google.

So you can use the link title density of other countries in 2012. But, sooner or later when Google upgrade, your website will also be swept.

That's why dozens of Case Studies (including GTVSEO) I share with you, despite all kinds of Google updates so far, it still stands. Prevention is better than cure, right?

And this is also one of the 3 reasons you can't get to the top of google.

Contextual Link – Build LSI Anchor Text (250 words)

Why is the contextual link the most effective among all types of links (menu link, footer link, single link, ...)?

Don't worry because there are too many SEO terms ! Actually, Contextual Link is very simple to understand.

What is Contextual Link?

So, what is Contextual Link actually?

Because you can't mass-use anchor text with keywords, you'll need a way to make your links relevant (context).

I'm not joking when I say this because indeed, I've used this co-occurrence technique on numerous projects as well as the GTV SEO Case Study below.

I always try to make each of my links relevant, even if it's not using keyword-rich anchor text or even if it's a medium-relevant site for my niche.

So how can you do that? Very simple!

You just need to let the linklabel revolve around your target keyword, the best linklabels always have the closest meaning to the keyword.

Use Contextual Link and build LSI anchor text

Using Contextual links and building LSI Anchor text

But it is not always possible to do so! Make it natural and don't try to let too many keywords revolve around your anchor text unnaturally.

Here are 3 examples for you to understand better:

#first. General Anchor Text

Target keyword: “SEO services”

Link title: “Here”

“If you are in need of an SEO service, take a look here”

And don't forget, don't use "here" too much to bore the reader. Diversify your words to create interest and encourage users to immediately click on your link!

#2. Brand Anchor Text

Target keyword: “overall SEO services”

link title: “overall SEO services”

“General SEO services GTV SEO”

#3. Anchor Text link naked

Target keyword: “SEO services”

Anchor Text: “gtvseo.com”

“At gtvseo.com, with SEO services, we will make you raise your brand”

Using co-occurrence is a must for any link title, even the correct link title.

The greater the relevance of the article to the link title , the stronger your backlink will be.

Because, Google is completely capable of understanding the relevancy of a link without having you throw hundreds of link titles into its search bot.

Strategies for using Anchor Text

There are 5 main types of links GTV SEO has used.

Social network backlinks

These backlinks are backlinks created by creating accounts on major social networking sites and registering backlinks to the landing page, such as Facebook GTV SEO.

Creating these social networking sites and letting Anchor Text be the URL, brand or common anchor will greatly increase the density of Anchor Tag, as well as help SEO dominate Google Map.

Most of all, most of these backlinks are no follow, so it also helps to diversify dofollow and nofollow density which is very useful.

Backlink forum

These backlinks help Google understand that you are trying to be part of a community, and when using the forum, GTV SEO also uses Anchor Text URLs similar to applying social backlinks.

These backlinks help Google understand that you are trying to be part of a community, and when using the forum, GTV SEO also uses Anchor Text URLs similar to applying social backlinks.

See how GTV SEO finds & builds relevant and quality forum backlinks with ahrefs here.

blog how

Similar to types 1 and 2, when I use this link title, I usually insert the link title as a naked link/my name or as a link title in the field. Check out how I built blog comment backlinks here.

Backlinks from web 2.0

Similar to the first 3 types, I use this type mainly to increase the density of the link label Url, brand, and general linklabel. Because when these densities account for 50-60% then I usually use these 4 types of backlinks to increase it, while using PBN to go for exact Anchor Text.

Private Blog Network (PBN)

Private Blog Network is the main method I apply in building super quality backlinks, these are also the main backlinks that strongly influence GTV SEO's keyword rankings. A little note that, if you do not understand what PBN is, find out why it is so powerful and to understand the part I am about to talk about next.

Because all the first 4 backlinks, GTV SEO all use Anchor Text as the brand / URL and general link title to increase the density of this title link. So the following is a list of Anchor Text that GTV SEO has used in the whole from "anonymous" to the top 2-3 keywords "SEO services".

Case study GTV SEO

As I said from the beginning, in this article, I will share how GTV SEO has applied Anchor Text to promote to the top of the SEO service keyword set with only 70-80 Referring Domains and a few hundred backlinks.

Another small note is that if you just followed me recently or read my article for the first time, when you check Ahrefs GTV SEO the number has increased to several thousand domains because the website has been shot by a competitor with bad links. We will start with the Case Study image for you to easily visualize.

Technical Anchor Text GTV SEO

In addition to the 12 types of link titles I shared with you first, there is another technique I apply while working on projects that is the concatenation technique.

As you can see in the Case Study, I have just applied the link title "SEO" or "SEO tphcm" (Anchor Text in the field) but there is a rather strange link title that is "service". It's actually a good idea!

As I said at the beginning, when Google crawls your backlinks and analyzes it, Google will now see that:

  • If you combine the word service with the word SEO, it will come out from SEO service.

  • And services with SEO tphcm will come from SEO services tphcm.

When you do this, you can both help Google better understand the niche of your website/article, SEO the exact keywords you want to promote, and moreover, you won't be over-optimized.

What are anchor links?

Anchor link is a link on a website attached to Anchor Text that allows users to redirect to somewhere on the same or different web pages.

It can be said that Anchor Text is a hyperlink that moves you to a new website/URL. In the example link label displayed in the html code <a href="http://gtvseo.com/">GTV SEO</a>, the anchor text is http://gtvseo.com/

Anchor Text is passed when using 301 redirect

One of the questions I often get asked when sharing SEO on Youtube and Facebook is that when 301 redirecting a website A back to website B, then website A's backlink will point to website B but will the anchor text be passed? ? The answer is yes .

This means that if you 301 redirect a website with spam Anchor Text, it WILL TRANSFER to your new website. This also means that if you 301 redirect a website that is penalized by Google for over-optimizing the link title, chances are that your new domain will also suffer.

There are 2 ways to avoid this:

Method 1: Make sure your new website has a large amount of branded anchor text/URL or link title in common so that when you transfer you won't have this problem.

Method 2: Create multiple brand/URL or generic title links for the new domain and then transfer (specifically, you can refer to how GTV SEO does below)

I recommend you do both.

Anchor Text and Internal Link

Internal Links are very important.

Whenever you add a relevant link to your article, you also need to think about anchor text. By thinking carefully about how and why you link these articles to improve your internal linking structure, you can make it easier for both users and search engines to navigate your site. .

To get the most out of internal links, try to only add links that provide real value to users. Write useful anchor text for your readers and keep them on your site longer.

Do not link for the sake of making it relevant and useful to the user. And of course, no spam!

Anchor Text and Backlink

Anchor Text will always retain its importance as long as the backlinks remain effective.

First you need to distinguish the difference between nofollow and dofollow links.

In terms of HTML, the only difference is that the nofollow link contains an additional piece of code. In this example, a nofollow link would look like this:

anchor text and backlinks

Nofolow Cards

However, even though it's small, that piece of code makes a huge difference through Google's algorithm.

  • Nofollow: Tells Google to NOT take backlinks into account when determining SEO value for either page. As of March 1, 2020, Google started using nofollow links as a cue to determine a site's position in the SERP.

  • Paid: Tells Google that this link was obtained through some arrangement between you and the publisher.

  • UGC (User Generated Content): Tells Google that the link (and all content) was placed on this page by the user.

Dofollow: Ask Google to give credit and trust the page you're linking to, and take that page into account when scanning through your links.

Natural Anchor Text and Unnatural Anchor Text

When users click on links to your site, it's inevitable that you'll get bad anchor text that's impactful and doesn't clearly define the topic of your page.

However, just like bare URLs, these are things that appear naturally and go unnoticed by search engines. On the other hand, a lack of obvious URLs that use too much anchor text or a large number of anchor text backlinks from one direction are said to be signs of unnatural anchor text inclusion. Google can penalize your sites if they are spammy and don't provide the real benefit that users need.

To get Natural Anchor Texts to your website, create good and really useful content.

Epilogue
