You also see I have shared quite a lot about Link Building. In my opinion, as well as some research results from 1,000,000 pages, it is always recognized that Backlinks are still the most influential factor for SEO.
So is only off-page SEO important? What about Onpage SEO optimization ? An important topic in Onpage is the Silo structure. Have you heard about Silo structure ?
I will reply to you right here!
What is Silo Structure?
Silo structure is the type of structure
The more content a silo contains related to the topic, the more relevant the website will be in the eyes of Google. If your page contains all the main queries of users when searching for a certain topic, that's great.
That is also the operating principle of the silo structure.
The silos specify the main content of your website. Break down the main content into smaller categories until this amount of information is enough to answer all relevant questions of the user.
Silo structure example
Each silo can be subdivided down to another silo floor. But instead of creating new silos or developing ideas based on topics. You should find ideas based on content or write new pages.
For example, “content strategy” can be broken down to “editorial calendar”. “Editorial calendar” could be the final topic of this Silo series, and instead of creating more Subtopics, you can develop keywords to write pages about:
- How to create Editorial Calendar?
- Editorial Calendar example?
- Development ideas for Editorial Calendar?
- Edit Content calendar tracking software
- Convenient plugin that supports Editorial Calendar
Doing so not only matches the user's search, but also makes the information on the Editorial Calendar page more valuable. Quickly increase the ranking of the Editorial Calendar page.
Because in my opinion if someone is looking for a topic how to create an Editorial Calendar they also want to know about examples, templates or related software and plugins.

Why should we deploy the Silo model for the website?
Let me show you some images of keywords where the Onpage Silo structure beats even the established Authority Sites .
Take a look at the keyword “ Christian Mingle Reviews ” – a keyword with a pretty good search volume (5400 times/month).
Well, I'll just take English keyword examples instead of using Vietnamese like other articles! Simply because in Vietnam there are very few people capable of building “huge” Silo or Onpage models and the foreign market is wide, so it is easier to find.
Here you can see that the difficulty is 25. If you don't know what this difficulty means and how competitive it is compared to Vietnam, you can think like this.
It competes more or less with the keyword "uniform sewing".
It is true that it is not too difficult for an experienced SEOer. But of course it also takes a bit of effort and time to rank on Google . And especially 3-word keywords with high volume tend to be more difficult to SEO.
Note: You must be wondering what software I am using to evaluate keyword difficulty. I use Kwfinder for you!
Did you notice something strange in the photo below:
See the number of links below that site compared to the DA , PA scores of rival sites you will find it amazing.
Of course I know that many players hide their PBN link, their satellite Link. But I don't think that in this case, the website above will hide the backlink.
Well, of course it's not just this keyword, there are many other keywords. Let's look at one more example of this phenomenon.
Search for the keyword “ Best Espresso Machines ” – another competitive keyword, you will see a difference in the top 2 – 3 of the keyword.
If you want to try searching, remember to change IP to US IP and use google.com instead of google.com.vn to be accurate.
Note: SERPs results can also change over time. And sometimes now that you are reading this article, the results are very different.
TheSweetHome (pictured above) is one of the largest and most popular websites in the US. The website was sold to the New York Times in a combo of 2 websites worth more than $30 million.
And of course it won't stop here. I'll show you a few surprises.
CoffeeMakerPicks:
And The Edge Coffee :
The website The Edge Coffe may have a bit of Authority (DR 52 according to Ahrefs) but the DR of Coffe Maker Picks is only 46.
If you are someone who has been in the SEO field for a long time, you will understand that:
This DR 46 index will be quite low if but standing in the context of this website is beating the Authority websites below.
- So why could this happen?
- How are these small sites able to beat the big Authority sites and stay at the top for so long?
- And what can you learn from it?
All thanks to the silo structure. So what is the silo structure, different from the usual flat structures.
Silo structure vs planar structure
Unlike the Silo, the flat structure aligns all articles equally. At best, grouped by simple category or worse, grouped by date. This structure is often used for blogs.
Many SEOers also use a flat structure for websites. But for me, deep structure or silo structure is the perfect choice. Simply because I want my website to be systematic, that is easy to group content and not cluttered navigation.
Choosing a silo or flat structure is just the beginning in SEO e-commerce website. To help you get an overview of all the standard optimization factors in E-Commerce SEO, I took the time to compile the "5 Days of Mastering Basic E-Commerce SEO" . Classification of Silo Structures in SEO
There are two ways of implementing the Silo structure in Search Engine Optimization: Physical silo through directory and virtual silo through association.
What is a physical silo?
A physical silo is a form of website structure building through the establishment of URL directories as a document sorting cabinet to organize related pages together.
=> Use the structure “domain name / silopage / sub-silopage”.
The URL can tell both the user and the Google bot what the page is about.
Specific examples:
https://www.thegioididong.com/dtdd/iphone-x-256gb
- Homepage : https://www.thegioididong.com
- Silo page: https://www.thegioididong.com/dtdd/
- Sub-silopage : https://www.thegioididong.com/dtdd/iphone-x-256gb
In addition to the sub-silopage above, you can refer to other sub-silopages (phone lines) on thegioididong.com's website. Commercial websites often use this physical silo structure.
Each topic will have a group of pages stored in the same folder about a specific category (eg: laptop, mobile phone, accessories, tablet, ...). And in that category there are sub-folders that are different subcategory (eg: samsung, iphone, oppo, ...).
Each file is in its own category, and no file can be classified into two categories at the same time. To build a physical silo structure, you must create a parallel directory structure with multiple themes that cover the entire website.
What is a virtual silo?
Virtual silo is a form of using the Internal Link structure of the website to link groups of related articles, separate unrelated articles, and increase the power of the main landing pages of each silo.
If the physical silo requires thematic pages to be placed in the same directory, the virtual silo is formed by the hypertext links between the pages of the same topic.
In fact, without a physical silo, linking related pages via text link (virtual silo) can still be effective. Have the search engine spiders follow these links to crawl the website's content. Therefore, it can be said that Virtual Silo has extremely great power.
By linking pages with related content. You can create a unified content for the entire website. You should build links in a hierarchy with top Landing Pages and subpages.
And subpages can link back to the normal Silo Landing Page.
Both forms of silo construction have their own advantages. I recommend combining the two to see unexpected results from this model. Understanding the theory is like that, but how to build this structure specifically. Scroll down to read more!

Steps to build complete silo structure from A to Z
Here are 5 steps to help you build the most complete and optimal silo structure.
Step 1: Determine your website theme, your website development orientation
You need to determine for yourself what is the direction of your website development, what is the main topic that you are aiming for, from which you can shape the sequence of your website's content.
If you already have a website structure, you need to determine what keywords your domain is currently on top so that you can determine exactly what topic Google is understanding your website about. In addition, you must also define how users interact on your website.
Besides, you must take the time to analyze your top competitors (maybe global analysis) to determine how the website structure they are building is like.
With the same theme as you implement, how did they optimize the structure. Specifically: how do they optimize their internal links, how do they write their content, where are their navigation bars and menus placed.
From here, you orient and design your website to at least be on par with your competitors, then you can count on the story of doing better than them. Because, Google is appreciating these websites because of the standards that it achieves, if you also apply and do the same, Google will easily recognize your website, increasing your chances of ranking up. top.
Step 2: Design and build the silo . structure
You have to understand that the internet is a series of huge networks connected by links. For example, site A connects to site B thanks to some link in the middle, or more specifically, site A points to site B, site B receives backlinks from site A.
So, in order to understand the huge amount of content on the internet, Google Robots (search engine engines) have broken down the pages of the internet into different content groups so that it understands what content groups are talking about. , and so on, it breaks down even more so that it can be fully understood.
For example: Content in the topic of home appliances will be divided into smaller topics such as kitchen tools, cooling tools, etc. Therefore, if your website is also optimized for a neat and organized structure, divide it. With reasonable content, Google will more easily identify your website, thereby helping the website to be prioritized in terms of search rankings.

Basically, we have 2 Silo structures that you can implement for your website: Physical Silo and Virtuals Silo.
Physical Silo is a form of building website structure through setting up URL directories as a document sorting cabinet to arrange related pages together.
Virtuals Silo (Virtual Silo) is a form of using the Internal Link structure of the website to link groups of related articles, separate unrelated articles, and increase the power of the main Landing Pages of each Silo.
(For more information you can see details at: https://gtvseo.com/silo-la-gi/ )
First you need to group the subtopic content under one main topic. You need to make sure there is at least 5 content in a topic, here I will call this group the jar. In order for Google robots to understand the topic of the jar, the content of the child topics must be closely related to the parent theme to create the most clarity and accuracy.
Step 3: Carefully apply different types of links (Internal Link, Outbound Link, Inbound Link) to clarify website content.
After grouping, you next need to use the links to create the silo structure. These links can be Internal Links (internal links) combined using Anchor Text, Inbound Link, Outbound Link.
Internal Links:
You should remember that the theme of the jar is built by the internal linking of the contents of that jar. Each content in the jar should be linked to the main jar as well as should point to other small content in the same jar.
For example, content on the topic of title optimization, should point to the main topic of Onpage SEO and point to other articles in the same big related topic such as how to write SEO content. You can put these internal links on the Navigation (menu bars), or create breadcrumbs.
When you link to other pages in the same domain, you must be extremely careful to avoid leaking relevancy. In case you want to point the child content of main jar A to the child content of main jar B, to avoid leakage, use nofollow.
About Anchor Text, you should use exact keywords or related keywords that you want SEO to do Anchor Text. This helps you increase relevance when linking to other content articles.
Inbound Link (backlink to website):
Inbound Links is another term for backlinks that are links pointing to your website. For example, you have 3 folders, men's watches, women's watches and Casio watches.
An article about men's Casio watches can point to men's and Casio's articles, but should not point to women's watches, in fact you can still point to but for absolute optimization of the beauty. related, you should only point to the above 2 pages only.
Relevant backlinks pointing to related topics will create relevance for the entire website, creating a good influence on your keyword rankings. Irrelevant backlinks in many cases can negatively affect your website, losing its relevance.
Outbound link: (External Link)
You should use Outbound Links to other sites in the field. If your website receives too many backlinks but you do not give any links to other pages, it will cause suspicion for Google.
At this time, Google will evaluate the website you are receiving many links to to manipulate Google search results. If you want your website to be considered natural in the eyes of Google and create more relevance, then your website must also act as a place to give links to reputable sites and in the same field. related to your website content and thus you will have outbound links in your silo structure.
If your content is about men's watches, you can link out to pages about men's watches and men's fashion, it will be closely related to your content.
Step 4: Create and publish quality related content in the Silo . structure
First, you need to analyze your competitors, compare the quantity and quality of content. Let's make a table of 2 columns, the first column on the number of articles, the second column on the quality including the average number of words, article form, images, unique...
The next thing you need to do is optimize the content on your website so that it is at least equal to your competitors before thinking to surpass them. After you have done it with your competitors, now Google will identify your website a lot easier and of course you will get to the top a lot faster.
Then, upgrade the content of your website to surpass the competition. If the competitor only has 100 articles, you can write 120 articles, the image can be unique, increasing brand awareness even more.
To be able to determine the number of articles of your opponent you can do the following. Enter the search engine with the syntax site:site address , for example: site:gtvseo.com. At this point, you will determine the total of your competitors' posts (this is an approximate estimate only).
In addition, you can go directly to the competitor's website to be able to determine the number of their articles! To know the quality of the article, you just need to look at the articles available on the competitor's website from there to evaluate its quality.
Step 5: Developing the Silo
Make sure to develop part 1, each silo must be good then move on to the next silo. After completing the construction of Silo A, at least the content must be completed (5 content articles) to ensure the formation of the Silo A theme, but try your best to be on par with the competition, ensure make sure the silo structure is optimized to the fullest and then move on to build another silo structure, that will be much better.
That's the whole thing that I want to share with you about building the Silo structure. In addition, you can also refer to other articles related to Silo in the blog section of GTV SEO to better understand this technique. Good luck!
Guide to building physical silo structure
Physical silos reinforce the website theme by grouping content pages into a tightly organized folder. There should be at least 4-5 pages of content to create a topic. And each page must be appropriately named URL to be able to clearly understand what the article is talking about.
If this directory structure is not clear. Users and search engines will not understand the purpose and topic of the website.
Think of a physical silo as a filing cabinet. To manage file cabinets effectively, everything must stay in place in groups and marked by clear Heading, each Category has its own Heading.
Take back the example I mentioned at the beginning of the article – thegioididong.com
As the content is mentioned in the Meta Description, website thegioididong.com focuses on trading items: Mobile phones, tablets, laptops, accessories, ...
Therefore, all mobile phone products will be grouped. And the laptop lines are classified into another group, ... These two groups must not share the same content or link to each other.
The cell phone silo structure will be as follows:
- https://www.thegioididong.com/dtdd/samsung-galaxy-note8
Other examples:
- Peanutbuttersite.com/creamy/traditional.html
- Peanutbuttersite.com/creamy/organic.html
- Peanutbuttersite.com/creamy/lowfat.html
- Peanutbuttersite.com/creamy/jellyhybrid.html
- Peanutbuttersite.com/creamy/honeyroasted.html
In the example above, each page is named so that the search engine sees the topic as the same. The category naming system that helps build these pages is all about smooth peanut butter.
Most sites will find their topics will grow to be broad enough to split into several other subtopics. If you see a fine peanut butter silo, the stool may be smaller. You can create more Sub-Silos, but need to limit the number of reasonable. Digging too deep can cause the bottom pages to not receive enough links to be considered relevant.
The sub-silo also gives you a lot of space to optimize for keywords or synonyms. The closer and tighter the silo structure, the higher the chances of getting to the top of the niche keyword, especially the long-tail keyword. However, do not forget the general keyword in the process, Silo needs to balance both types of keywords.
After creating many separate threads, you will wonder how to connect them. For example, your peanut butter site has a Silo about the health benefits of various peanut butters. If you have a page on the more specific topic of peanut butter health benefits, that page should definitely cover two parts: the health benefits and the smooth peanut butter.
The best way to connect these two parts without disturbing the topic is to link from the smooth peanut butter page to the health benefits Landing Page. Doing so will tell the tool you have two Unique Silos and both of these pages will stand out more easily. Indiscriminate linking can be confusing for search engines.
A GTV student asked an interesting question in the group of students: “A product has many attributes, each attribute is a category (also coincides with the keyword seo). So 1 product (post) according to the silo structure cannot be in 2 different categories? For example, the Panasonic-001 washing machine should not be in both categories: panasonic washing machine and cheap washing machine, right?”
Based on the knowledge of the article I will answer that: 1 product is allowed in more than one category. For example: Panasonic ABC washing machine (price under 5 million) can belong to 2 categories as follows
– Belonging to cate: may-giat-panasonic;
– Belongs to the cate: may-giat-duoi-5tr.
The Power of Relevancy
If you've been following me for a long time, you'll see that I constantly promote the power of Relevance both in backlinks and onpage. Namely, that's the power of topical relevance: This relevancy is created by the content in a permanent website.
To tell you more clearly, the relevance of Off page and Onpage (or either). It's not the only way you can use it to get the results you want. Sometimes your website just needs to be an Authority page (a site trusted by google and strong) that can help you seo top google already.
For now, let's embark on techniques to create website relevance for your website!
Techniques for creating relevancy in the website
Technique 1: Narrow down the niche of your website.
The first way to make your website relatable is to focus on the right niche. With these types of websites, other on-page seo techniques will hardly matter. Because an entire website only talks about a single topic.
Take a look at some examples below to understand what I mean:
CoffeeMakerPicks.com:
This is a website that only talks about products to make coffee, so when you create content or create an Onpage structure. Everything revolves around the coffee machine. In Vietnam, we also have many websites like this, especially domains with exact keywords. I'll take some examples as an illustration,
Maycatlaser.vn A
website that only talks about laser cutting machines
Bonruachen.com , xetghiemadn.info… You get what I mean.
The sites I mentioned above (and you'll see a lot in SEO) are sites that focus on certain products only. Or even a single product, sites that target niche markets.
You will see them appear a lot in the Top 10 of the keywords you are SEO. This is a big reason why their website succeeds when it comes to SEO – and another part of the reason is that they have the exact keywords that need seo in the root of the domain.
But… It also matters!
If your website only talks about a single product, it is very difficult to develop both in terms of sales and especially in terms of company brand! That's why big companies/brands when building websites they have a different way to build relevancy in the website.
Technique 2: On-Page Silo Structure
Silos is a technique that helps to replicate the relevance of concentrated niches in large websites by isolating market groups and related articles within them (Don't be afraid if you don't understand, I will say exactly what you need to do below)
But this is not just a technique that large websites (especially Ecommerce sites) do. But besides that, small websites can also do it. And when small sites apply it, it produces a very good result.
You can take a look at 10Bestonline.com , with the first picture that I gave you, they are in the top 1. Or better examples in this area are the website ThankyouSkin.com, a very good Silo site with more than 185,900 traffic/month.
Or even more "terrorist" sites are VixenDaily with 1,700,000 traffic / month (statistics from Similar web and when you put it in Ahref, it only estimates about 305k / month).
Theory of Silo Structure
Before I get to the point, I want to give you two videos where I talked about Silo and Onpage structure
Silo structure link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORGX7ns1e5s&t=2s
Link for advanced on-page internal linking skills:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sDc1BU9r8s
In these 2 videos, I talk quite clearly about its theory and operation. But in both these and the other videos out there about Silo. I found it to be a bit “outdated” and not very effective.
In this article I will show you the structures that I researched and applied more successfully when doing SEO. I also want to give you some terminology so that the rest of this article you can easily understand.
Terms
Silo Pages : Your “top” pages are internally linked to subpages (you can see the image below). In wordpress, you can use Pages or there are some I see using Categories page
Post : the posts (posts) on your blog, website are what make up the silo structure
My Silo Theory
From my point of view, there are 2 main parts in the silo structure which are GROUP and SEPARATE:
Groups = Put really related content into respective categories.
Separation = Create a separate system for different groups to ensure that these groups only interact with content in the same category.
You will be using both Groups and Separate when creating your site structure and when linking internally.
The whole idea is to create closed groups. But the related content of each group is linked to each other via internal links (Internal Link) and interacts with each other only in that group.
The group
Groups = Create truly relevant content into respective categories. I will give you some specific examples to make it clear what I mean, fitness websites can be divided into the following groups:
Well, you can also split your content into as many subgroups as you want. But you also have to make sure the user experience is still good.
I also think you will ask me or ask yourself: “ How many lessons and how much depth is enough?”
Normally, when I create silo structure and when create different Groups. In each group, I usually create 10-100 songs.
Assuming we are using Wordpress, I will group content in different Groups into different categories. Each category will be at a different URL, for example:
- gtvseo.com/giam-can
- gtvseo.com/the-hinh
- gtvseo.com/dinh-duong
Separation
Segregation = Make sure content posted in different groups only interacts (internally) with content in that group.
This is how I create relevancy. When google comes to your website and reads through articles, you will want to navigate Google and make Google think: “Wow… The whole topic/article here is about weight loss”.
We navigate google with Internal Links – Internal linking is one of the most important parts of a successful silo structure.
So that you separate each group properly. All internal links of each group should only be in that group, not linked to another group. Weight loss articles are only linked to weight loss articles. Articles about nutrition are only linked to articles about nutrition and nothing else.
If you link to other groups it will "leak" your relevance
We will use Internal Link in places:
- In the writing
- At the Sidebars
- Links in Footer
- And other places
In other words, here are some rules when you use internal linking:
- Silo Pages should link down to their respective posts
- Posts can link to other posts in the same Silo group
- Posts MAY link to other silo pages (picture below)
- Footer links should only link to pages of little value (e.g. contact, about, etc.)
- Links in Navigation should only link to other top Silo pages
You can see the picture below for easy illustration.
Remember, you can still link to other posts in other Silo groups. If the situation you have to or you really think this will be good for the reader, then do it. But you won't want to do this too much, always minimize the "leakage" of relevancy.
In order for you to better understand what I am talking about, we need to talk a little bit about Silo.
Silo Structure On Page
There are many people sharing, talking about different structures from basic to complex when talking about silos. As for me, I always try to simplify everything. The basics when it comes to silo structure are: Home page > Silo Page > Post.
Your post structure should look something like this:
gtvseo.com/the-hinh/deadlifts/
Gtvseo.com/the-hinh/Bench-press/
Gtvseo.com/the-hinh/hit-dat
*if you If you don't know what deadlifts and bench-presses are, those are specific exercises when you go to the gym*
In the Silo Pages (subcategories). You'll want to structure it like this: Homepage > Silo page > Sub-Silo Page > Post. You can see the image below for a more detailed illustration.
More reference: Meta Description tag - helps users and search engines have a more general view of the content they are about to visit.
The URL will then look like this:
Gtvseo.com/nutrition/keto/nhung-mon-an-chua-chat-beo-cao/
Gtvseo.com/nutrition/paleo/cong-thuc-paleo/
*Nutrition is nutrition and Keto and Paleo are 2 types of recipes that are effective in losing weight*
And of course… Your silo structure can have more layers:
Hompage > silo page > Sub-silo page > Sub sub -silopage > Posts
But the "deeper" you go, the more you have to sacrifice other things, which are:
- User experience on the web.
- Page Depth (Number of clicks required to get to that page)
In short, in general, I do not recommend you to do so
Practice: How to Create a Silo . Structure
In this section, I will focus on creating a silo structure for a new website. I will guide you step by step because:
- When I made a video sharing about this issue, many of you were still confused and asked me many questions. Because I have just told you the theory part, I have not modeled for practice.
- Building a silo from a brand new website is much easier than having to recreate an existing website.
- Silo is really great if you know how to apply and practice when recreating the site structure from the beginning.
What I am trying to say above is that if you already have a website and you want to optimize it, it will be very difficult, and in doing so, you must have a different process chain and depending on the type of page that you need. show different.
As for me, when I receive a project, I don't always have to optimize the Onpage structure! The simple reason is, if your Onpage is not perfect, then you just need to make a good Off page guy, you can also SEO to the top and build a strong brand, as well as having websites that are too big. . And tweaking the website is not something that happens overnight.
As I said at the beginning, Silo is a method to help you seo to the top. But that doesn't mean that without it you can't get to the top!
Step 1: Keyword research.
Silos is not something you both do and plan. It's something you have to do from the beginning. (Well, the truth is you can, but it's going to be a lot harder.)
This means, you should build keywords around Silo. Instead of typing in the keyword “clock” into Google Keyword Planner or other keyword research tools and then taking the keywords with the lowest search volume, you need to do more research and also experiment to see if you can. enough really profitable keywords for Silo to become effective.
Let's take the example of keyword research for a fitness website. I'll start with creating the Groups first.
If you are familiar with this market or you already have an idea for this market, it is not difficult for you to think of Silo groups, but if you do Affiliate or SEO project for someone, sometimes you won't have any ideas.
The easiest thing you can do is go to the Wiki pages to get ideas for grouping your website, which you can see here!
I know that the web Wiki I gave is all in English, but don't worry, Google translate is already available! You can leave it in and translate or change the site-wide translation mode and then you will have specific topics
Here I will take the topics are:
- Cardio
- Nutrition
We don't need much, just 2 to be able to understand what I'm trying to say and share here. If you still find it difficult to understand and don't know where to start, simply go to Google, type in some keywords and see how your major competitors / sites are doing? It's easiest to see what it's about and then start from there.
The example below is a foreign website about bodybuilding. And see how they break down the different Topic Groups.
It's great, isn't it?! Of course, you don't have to start creating a website that covers all of the above topics. But you only need to create 2-3 Topic Groups, or just 1 is fine. And then when your web grows up, it doesn't matter if you create the remaining Groups to "expand" your brand as well as "dominate" your market.
Then comes the keyword research you need for seo, it is best to research keywords with the highest search volume / purchase conversion rate / highest search volume as well as the lowest possible competition to create your silo structure.
However, this is not an article about seo keyword research. You can check out some of my keyword research and seo competitor analysis videos . And here, I'm going to take some keywords so I can create a silo group as quickly as possible for you! (Again, remember, I'm trying to get a quick Silo Group, so please take your time doing some more keyword research.)
But you will want to find long-tail keywords that have a lot of search volume or informational keywords that will bring in a lot of traffic, because these are the keywords that tend to be easy to SEO and get traffic from. and corporate branding.
Okay, so now let's start building the silo structure! (note that, if I were you, I would spend a lot of time doing keyword research because this is a very, very important step).
Step 2: Create a Silo Plan on Paper
Sketching out a silo plan is very important. Because it will help you clearly visualize what you will and should do now and in the future. There are many ways to sketch out your planner, you can use:
- Google Sheets
- Imindmap
- White paper (you draw it yourself)
- Workflowy
- And many more ways…
Normally, I would sketch out by hand or use a Google Sheet. In this case I will make a sample for you using google sheet. Because if I draw and write, only God can read it! You can see the picture below:
In the process of drafting a Silo plan, there are many ways for you to choose from. Here are some of the popular ways I send you:
Method 1: Storage Silo
Google is getting smarter and annoyed with link spam websites.
The problem is, people often focus on linking to landing pages and gradually throughout the construction process it easily turns into spam. That's why you need to use Internal Link – to distribute the power and get more value of the link.
When building links to your website, you must be careful not to optimize your anchor text as it is a quick way to a Google penalty.
When linking between pages or posts, feel free to use anchor texts and use exact match keyword phrases.
Option 02: Silo Category
This is a method that requires the website to have a news section divided into many subcategories.
Option 03: Silo Circle
Method of creating a silo to news articles. The structure of the blogs gives direct links to the website, generating signals with the search engines.
- You should create at least 4 blog posts on a single topic related to the landing silo page.
- Each blog post should link to a relevant and news item post.
- Each blog post must link back to the Silo page.
- Blog posts should only link to one Silo page.
Step 3: Start with your largest group of Silos
In my opinion, you should start by creating each silo group first. Finish this group then create another group. This is one of the easiest ways to create and complete Teams. As well as creating relevance for the whole group! Do not "play" with many Silo Groups at the same time while you are a newbie!
To easily illustrate what I mean. I would like to take some pictures of Authority Hacker to illustrate how to create a Silo. As shown in the figure, you will start with the Sub silo group which is Paleo (a weight loss recipe that I mentioned above) first, then slowly expand to the subs, the other silo page is Kateo and so on. which continues…
Step 4: Setup Silo
When creating a silo on your website, keep these 2 things in mind:
1. The links in the sidebar only link to articles in the same category
2. Adjust Silo Pages
Hmm, the truth is I'm not a professional web designer and this blog doesn't show you how to design and build a website. But I'll show you some basics and keep in mind as you do.
Create Links in Side Bar
As I said above, to keep relevance in each group. We need links that link to articles only in that group. I will show you one of the easiest ways to create when you use Wordpress.
Go to Wordpress, select plugin > add then search for Ultimate Posts Widget. Install then activate it, after activation, select theme > widgets , then find Ultimate Posts section.
In the Option section (optional), click on the box in the image below and then do nothing. Okay, now let's start tweaking the Silo Pages!
Silo Page Adjustment
To really form a perfect silo, you need a silo page . There are many ways to create a Silo page, but like I said, I'm not a designer so I can't show you this (simply because we GTV have a handsome guy who specializes in web design). other than that every time I have a web problem or a request, I ask him to solve it)! But I will give you some notes when creating a Silo page to avoid the case that you create it wrong.
Basically, Silo Page needs 2 things:
1. Content that targets the keywords with the highest search volume and the most common
2 . Links to other articles in the same group Silo
Let me give you a good example of it. Let's go back to the website 10bestonline.com where I took the example of the keyword it ranked top in the first place.
As you can see, the Title / H1 targets a common and very good keyword: “10 Best Online Dating Sites for 2017” (10 Best Online Dating Sites 2017). Then an article about it.
Next is a large frame, in the frame talking about those 10 online dating sites. Every website has a button called Read Review. And this button is linked to articles in the same Silo group!
Another example from the HealthAmbition.com site,
As shown in the figure, the Silo Page post is linked to each post in the same group.
Small note :
Some notes about linking in navigation, Internal Link (internal link) so that you don't get "lost, make sure you comply with some of the following laws:
1. Navigation is only linked to Top Silo page links
2. Internal links can only be linked to articles in the same group
3. Each article in the Silo group should have at least 1 link to the article. other in the same group (link in the sidebar is still counted as an internal link)
Step 5: Create more Silo Groups
After completing a group, start running, have backlinks, you will see a clear effect. Traffic and revenue as well as your brand will increase more and more. So it's only a matter of time before you can add more silos groups one by one.
If you make a new website and have completed the Silo page and have a complete set of keywords, then you only need to write more content to put in those Silo groups.
But, I understand that this should be easy to do from a new page. So what about existing and running websites? As I said above, it depends on the situation, and of course, it will be quite risky to do, but I will also give you some caveats.
For currently running pages
As you adjust these pages, be very, very careful when editing new URLs. Because if you adjust the URL, even if you have a 301 redirect, it is very very dangerous and difficult. And besides, you are extremely easy to lose the top if you do it incorrectly.
The main problem is often that some percentage of the content you have currently doesn't fit into any of the Silo/Category groups, especially if you choose category pages that are overly broad topics.
So you are faced with an ultimatum: Create the Silo and delete the irrelevant content…. Or make no adjustments at all. When I received the project seo, some customers said "don't worry, my website is designed very seo standard!".
And it's true "standard seo"…
When I received the project, I didn't even dare to edit anything because I was afraid that when I edited it, I would drop the top of some keywords as well as delete irrelevant content articles that were on the top and brought in traffic and money, as well as brand name. brand.
However, I also give you some Checklists for you to keep in mind as you do:
- Leave the URL as it is
- Create appropriate Categories / Silo Groups and then adjust existing content into corresponding groups
- Adjust the links in the SideBar to only link to content posts in the same group
- Remove links that bring little value in the footer
- Adjust navigation for links to top silo pages
- Adjust the content in each group only Link to the content in the same group

Summary
I would like to say the last few which are: What is Silo Structure ? It's actually been talked about a lot and has been around for a long time, but it's really just a very good On Page SEO model.
That is to say: there are sites that don't perform well, and there are sites that don't do silo but are still very successful, GTV is a prime example!
With competitive keywords such as reputable SEO services or SEO courses, they still come to the top. With no silo structure and very low On page. (remember, I was at the top before I started posting content on the website and building the GTV brand for those of you who don't know and think that GTV is on top because of traffic – I've only been posting content for 3 weeks just now!)
The things I shared above are the principles for you to create success in Silo, but the reality is… There are many websites that do not follow the above principles. And besides that, it broke a lot of rules but was still extremely successful.
Just look at Wikipedia and you'll understand, it's a good example! Each single article links to dozens – and often hundreds of articles in other silos. It's the worst structure, the worst and it's amazing how well they do it.
Obviously, their website is too trusted by Google and has billions of backlinks going, creating a seemingly unmatched credibility, but once you are too "powerful", then the principle is just the cause. It's just a rule… very few people are making the silo “perfectly”, so here are the most important things:
(1) A streamlined, user-friendly site structure can help your site rank better.
(2) Silos are just one way to help you do that.
This is just the basic knowledge to answer the definition of what a Silo Structure is and how to create a Silo structure.
